Having Suffered Mbappe Blow, Who Could Real Madrid Sign?

There have been rumours for at least two years that Kylian Mbappe was going to be the next big signing for Real Madrid.

Having been a long-term target for the Spanish champions, it appeared the transfer was going to be completed before the end of May.

There has seemed an inevitability about the deal taking place and Mbappe wearing the white of Real Madrid next season.

However, in what was a dramatic u-turn, the French forward announced he was going to stay in Paris and signed a new, bumper deal with Paris Saint-Germain.

The estimated figures and details of the contract are mind blowing and with the sort of money and influence being estimated, can anyone really blame Mbappe for staying put?

The decision to stay in France has come as a huge blow to both Real Madrid and La Liga. This was going to be the statement signing of the summer and the promotional benefits for Real Madrid and the Spanish topflight would have been massive.

Real Madrid president, Florentino Perez is said to be angry and there could be legal action from the club and La Liga regarding the new deal signed by Mbappe at PSG.

Real Madrid’s transfer plans have been blown out of the water by Mbappe’s decision and this could develop into a tricky summer for the club in terms of transfer business.

Manchester City have landed Erling Haaland, a striker who was of interest to Real Madrid but was clearly second choice to Mbappe. Haaland would have been the next option for Real Madrid but the Norwegian is out of the question so what happens next in the Spanish capital?

There has been talk of Mohamed Salah leaving Liverpool this summer and his current deal runs out in 2023. The Egyptian international is 30 in June and has yet to sign a new deal at Anfield.

If Salah and Liverpool cannot agree terms, Real Madrid could test the water with an offer this summer. However, it is worth remembering Salah and Real Madrid do not have a good history.

Salah even called them out ahead of their Champions League semi-final with Manchester City, saying he wanted to play them in the final to make amends for their previous meeting in 2018.

Another Premier League player who could make the move to the Santiago Bernabéu is Harry Kane. Time is running out for Kane to win the silverware his goals and talent deserve.

With Manchester City and Liverpool dominating in the Premier League, a move to Real Madrid could lead to domestic and European titles. Karim Benzema is 34 and will need to be replaced eventually, with Kane being a fine option.

Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski is available this summer and is believed to have held talks with Barcelona.

Real Madrid could step in and highjack the deal but at 33 years of age, he falls into the same bracket as Benzema and Lewandowski would not be the exciting signing fans are hoping for in Madrid.

In truth, with Mbappe and Haaland off the market, there is not a great deal in way of potential big-name signings for Real Madrid this summer and that is massive blow to the club.
