West Ham’s injury crisis could sink them at City

West Ham heads to Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon with an injury crisis. The Hammers are reported to be close to sealing a £24million deal for Italian striker Simone Zaza from Juventus, but the Italian international will not be involved in this clash.

The Hammers injury list includes Aaron Creswell, Andy Carroll, Diafra Sakho, Andre Ayew and Sofiane Feghouli. All five are definitely ruled out, while the likes of Dimitri Payet, Manuel Lanzini, Havard Nordtveit and Mark Noble are also doubtful.

It is not the best preparations for a trip to face a Citizens team that has won both of their Premier League games this season and also two in the Champions League play-off. City under Pep Guardiola will only get better.

The Hammers lack of fit players will no doubt be a concern for everybody connected with the club. The last thing they need is a trip to the Etihad Stadium. West Ham won at City early last season, but that was when Slaven Bilic’s side were at full strength.

The Irons injury crisis could mean that new signing youngster Edimilson Fernandes, who recently move to the Hammers from FC Sion could be given a baptism of fire at the Etihad Stadium.

The Hammers victory at the Etihad last season will give them hope of repeating the feat, but it would take an incredible performance from Bilic’s side to take anything from their trip to Manchester.

Bilic and co will be hoping that their injury crisis clears up very soon, because if it does not then the happy Hammers could experience a very difficult campaign.
