Alvaro Morata will struggle to play at Real Madrid
Alvaro Morata was reportedly one of the most in-demand players of the summer transfer windows. The likes of Chelsea and Arsenal were linked with a move for the Spanish striker. In the end, Spanish giants Real Madrid activated a buy-back clause to re-sign their former forward.
The deal reportedly cost Los Blancos 30million euros. It was expected to be purely a financial move by the European champions. The 23-year-old was in-demand and in the crazy transfer market was reported to be worth far more than the fee Real paid to buy him back.
It was expected that Morata would be sold in a bidding war. Instead, Real Madrid head coach Zinedine Zidane has confirmed that the striker will not be sold this summer and will be part of his squad for next season.
That means Morata competing for a place up front at Real, with Los Blancos’ BBC of Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema and of course Cristiano Ronaldo. He is unlikely to oust any of the threesome, who all enjoyed more productive campaigns last season than the striker.
Staying at Real could mean that the promising striker’s development could stall and he may spend long periods of time sitting on the bench at the Bernabeu next season.
A move elsewhere may have seen him being a key player at a high-profile club and a chance to start to really develop his knack for scoring goals. The striker has obviously decided that he wants to stay in the Spanish capital.
It was a brave move considering the players he is up against for a starting place next season. Unfortunately, it looks doubtful the move will pay off for the Spanish international star.
