Gonzalo Higuain deal a major one for Juventus

According to Sky Sports reports, Argentinian striker Gonzalo Higuain has agreed terms and underwent a medical at Italian champions Juventus. The Bianconeri are still in negotiations with his current club Napoli over a fee.

However, the striker has a buy-out clause in his contract of around £79million, which would be a major amount of money for Juventus to pay out for one player. Italian football is not awash with cash, even the Bianconeri, who are reigning champions do not pay such big fees for players.

Higuain is no doubt a very good player and topped the Serie A scoring charts last season finding the net 36 times. The 28-year-old has been a prolific scorer of goals for much of his career and will no doubt be prolific for the Bianconeri next season, if as expected the two clubs come to an agreement.

The likes of Atletico Madrid and Arsenal were also linked with moves for Higuain, but were reportedly put off by Napoli’s valuation of the striker. However, it seems that the Bianconeri are willing to get nearer to Napoli’s valuation of the player.

This deal comes after it was reported that Juventus are close to agreeing the sale of French international midfielder Paul Pogba, with Manchester United believed to be his prospective destination.

A world record fee has been mooted for the highly-rated star and further talks are expected to be next week. The sale of Pogba would certainly help Juventus finance the deal to sign Higuain.

However, it seems the Bianconeri may have to use most of the money recouped from the sale of Pogba to sign Higuain. Wherever the money comes from for Juventus any deal for Higuain would represent a major move in the transfer market for the men from Turin.
