Mkhitaryan could prove a key signing for Manchester United

Manchester United completed the £26.3million signing of Armenian attacking midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan from Dortmund. The 27-year-old is Jose Mourinho’s third signing at United following the summer arrival of defender Eric Bailly and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

However, Mkhitaryan could prove to be a key player for United judging by his stats from his time in the Bundesliga. The Armenian captain scored 41 times and produced a further 49 assists in three years at BVB.

Last season the attacking midfielder scored 23 goals and produced an impressive 32 assists. If he can transfer that sort of performance to the Premier League then he could turn out to be a stellar signing for the Red Devils.

Mkhitaryan will add vision, versatility and sheer creativity to a team that laboured under previous boss Louis van Gaal for much of last season. At 27-years-old the attacking midfielder is in his prime and is only likely to add to add to his impressive career statistics in European football.

United boss Mourinho now has a number of attacking options for next season’s expected assault on the Premier League title. Mkhitaryan will be joined in the Red Devils attacking ranks by Ibrahimovic, Wayne Rooney, Anthony Martial and highly-rated youngster Marcus Rashford.

United are one of the favourites to win the Premier League title next season and with the attacking options now available to Mourinho then they should be prolific in front of goal in the new campaign.

Mkhitaryan is no doubt a shrewd signing from the Red Devils new boss and it would be highly-surprising if the Armenian did not hit similar heights to the ones he hit in German football.
