Euro 2016 Golden Boot contenders: Robert Lewandowski
Heading into the European Championships many strikers will be talked about as prolific scorers of goals, but right now Bayern Munich forward Robert Lewandowski has to be considered one of the best out-and-out strikers in the world game.
The former-Dortmund star was the top scorer in qualifying scoring 13 times in 10 appearances, as the Poles were the top scorers. His scoring record in qualifying was just a reflection on his sheer ability to sniff out a goal scoring opportunity.
Last season Lewandowski scored 29 goals in 31 appearances for German champions Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga. His international scoring rate is slightly lower than his scoring rate in domestic form with 34 goals in 75 appearances for his country, but that still has to be regarded as a decent strike rate.
Lewandowski is no doubt a fantastic goal scorer and proved his ability in the qualifiers. Most of his international teammates are not considered to be in the same league as the striker, but few in world football are in the same bracket as him.
Poland were prolific in qualifying and Lewandowski aside were in good form in front of goal. Lewandowski challenging for the Golden Boot in France will very much depend on his teammates maintaining their good form.
The Poles have not been handed the toughest group, as they have been drawn alongside world champions Germany, Ukraine and Northern Ireland. They will be hopeful of making the knockout stages and if they do then Lewandowski’s chances of winning the Golden Boot will no doubt increase.
