Andros Townsend could turn out to be the bargain of the summer

Andros Townsend could turn out to be the bargain of the summer

There has been a lot said about Everton’s lack of investment in their squad in the summer transfer window. The Merseysider’s spent just £1.7million to sign Demarai Gray from German outfit Bayer Leverkusen.

The former Leicester winger is already showing his worth and some are talking about him as one of the bargain buys of the summer in the Premier League.

However, due to Gray’s stellar start for the Toffees, the form of fellow new boy Andros Townsend has almost gone under the radar.

The 30-year-old arrived as a free agent after his contract at Crystal Palace expired in the summer. When he arrived, many believed him to be just a backup player, as the Toffees had been linked with moves for several high-profile wide-men.

As the summer wore on though, the realisation that Everton were not going to spend any more money than the fee spent on Gray dawn on fans.

Now, Townsend is a regular starter for the Merseysider’s and he is already proving to be a shrewd addition to the squad. The winger has already produced four goals and two assists in all competitions this season.

He is a typical Rafa Benitez player, as he will run all day long, but also has good technical ability. Like the other summer signings, Townsend has bought into the club.

Unlike some players who have been less than committed to the Merseysider’s, the winger seems to be happy to be playing for the club. At a club like Everton that is appreciated.

If he continues on his current trajectory, Andros Townsend could well turn out to be one of the bargains of the Premier League transfer window.

With Everton seemingly tied down by FFP, the Merseysider’s may well need to find a few more Gray’s and Townsend’s if they are to move forward in the future.
