Former Arsenal forward Serge Gnabry scored twice as Bayern Munich thrashed Chelsea with a dominant performance at Stamford Bridge.

The German side looked sharp right from the kick-off and Chelsea were lucky to go into the break on level terms.

Thomas Muller’s header hit the bar in the first half, while Gnabry, Robert Lewandowski and Kingsley Coman all came close.

However, the deadlock was broken early in the second half when Lewandowski set up Gnabry to score from close range.

Three minutes later, Gnabry netted his second with a cool left-footed finish into the corner of the net. Lewandowski was the provider once more, while Chelsea watched on helplessly.

Gnabry had the chance to complete a hat-trick before the hour mark, but the 24-year-old struck a fierce volley just over the crossbar.

Chelsea had a chance to pull a goal back when Joshua Kimmich’s misplaced pass found Mason Mount. But the Blues youngster failed to hit the target.

The tie was all but over when Alphonso Davies made a marauding run down the wing before setting up Lewandowski to scored Bayern’s third on 76 minutes.

Marcos Alonso was sent off late on following a VAR review, so the Chelsea left-back will be suspended for the second leg in Germany.

Ultimately, Bayern outclassed Chelsea in every department.
