Manchester United thrashed Chelsea in Frank Lampard’s first Premier League match in charge of The Blues.

Marcus Rashford opened the scoring on 18 minutes. The England forward fired home from the penalty spot after being fouled by Kurt Zouma.

Anthony Martial made it 2-0 in the 65th minute before Rashford killed the game off with his second just two minutes later.

Substitute Daniel James then scored a debut goal nine minutes from time to complete a comprehensive victory for his side.

The final scoreline was harsh on the visitors. Chelsea were the better side in the first half, with Tammy Abraham and Emerson both hitting the woodwork.

However, Frank Lampard’s side lacked cohesion, and Manchester United punished them with some classic counter-attacking football.

Despite Chelsea having more of the ball and registering more shots, they failed to make their superiority count.

Manchester United were the far more clinical side on the day, and the fact that the team won so convincingly without dominating will please manager Ole Gunner Solskjaer.

How did Manchester United’s new signings get on?

Solskjaer gave starts to Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka and players both impressed following their big money moves from Leicester City and Crystal Palace.

Maguire looked at home in United’s back line. He was comfortable in possession, calm under pressure and authoritative throughout his debut performance.

Wan-Bissaka also enjoyed an impressive debut. The right-back made a number of key tackles while also proving that he’s got what it takes to be a threat going forward.

Daniel James replaced Andreas Pereira on 74 minutes and managed to score his first competitive goal for his new club.

Chelsea’s returning youngsters

Frank Lampard showed faith in youth by naming Kurt Zouma, Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham in his starting line-up.

They all enjoyed successful seasons away from the club on-loan in 2018/19 and will each be looking to solidify their place in Chelsea’s first-team.

Tammy Abraham and Mason Mount both looked lively however Kurt Zouma had a nightmare return; conceding a penalty and looking short of confidence.
