England will meet Italy in the final of Euro 2020 as the Three Lions battled past Denmark on what was the most historic day at Wembley Stadium since it was rebuilt in 2007.

Gareth Southgate’s men continued from where they left off against Ukraine in the first half as they dominated the ball and created a few chances early on through the likes of Raheem Sterling.

Harry Kane played his new role of dropping deep inside the first 30 minutes, which allowed for the likes of Bukayo Saka, Sterling and Mason Mount to get ahead of the Danish defence, but initially to no avail.

However, the Dane’s gradually worked their way back into the game and on the 30th minute, Mikkel Damsgaard rifled in a fabulous free kick from distance that caught Jordan Pickford out.

The Everton keeper was beaten for the first time this tournament and although it was not completely in the corner, it was a tough effort to save.

England’s pressure continued towards the end of the first 45 and playmaker Kane in the middle and the likes of Luke Shaw on the left really started to tick for the Three Lions.

Then, just nine minutes after Damsgaard’s goal, the England captain played in Saka with a fabulous through ball. The Arsenal winger then crossed the ball into Sterling, who then had the chance of a tap-in.

Simon Kjaer intercepted the ball, but it only resulted in an own goal from the Denmark captain as the first half ended 1-1.

The second half was a mixed bag. Denmark found some success early on and England also saw much of the ball and troubled Kasper Schmeichel on a bunch of occasions.

Sterling had efforts saved, while Harry Maguire’s header from a corner forced one of the saves of the tournament from his ex-teammate, as Schmeichel leaped across his net to push the England defender’s header wide of his post.

England ended the second half on top, but extra time was needed. It was a game of two halves in extra time within itself, as the Three Lions dominated the first 15 minutes, seeing all of the ball and troubling the Danish defence throughout; it seemed as if England's fitness levels were just too much for Denmark.

Then, Sterling was brought down by Joakim Mæhle on the 104th minute after the Manchester City man sprinted at the Danish defence once again. It was controversial, but nevertheless, Kane had a penalty.

The Three Lions captain missed it, but tapped home the rebound as Wembley witnessed its most famous goal since 1966.

England crept over the line and have now made it to their first final since that World Cup win 55 years ago and they will now meet a 33-game unbeaten Italian side in one of the closest European Championship finals imaginable this Sunday.
