Manchester United Need a Striker but Who Could Join the Red Devils in the Summer?
1958

Manchester United have been performing well for much of this season under the guidance of Erik ten Hag.

They are in a good position to finish in the top four and qualify for the Champions League plus they have already won a trophy thanks to the victory over Newcastle United in the League Cup final.

There are two other trophies still to compete for this season but there is one area of the team that seems to be missing and that is a quality striker.

Wout Weghorst has worked hard since he joined Manchester United and no one can doubt his commitment to the cause. However, despite his excellent work rate in games, his goal scoring record is not good enough to be the number nine at Manchester United.

The Dutch international has failed to score a goal in the Premier League this season having played 8 matches. He has 1 goal to his name in the Europa League and 1 goal in the League Cup.

This central striker position is one area of the team Manchester United need to strengthen in the summer but who could realistically arrive at Old Trafford?

Rumours are beginning to build again about the future of Harry Kane. The Tottenham Hotspur striker was heavily linked with a move to Manchester City but it did not happen and now he could switch his sights to Old Trafford.

Kane is a proven Premier League goal scorer and would guarantee goals at Old Trafford next season. His link up play is excellent and Kane would work hard for the team, which are both required under Ten Hag.

However, Kane would be 30 years old at the beginning of next season and would also command a hefty transfer fee which could stop club from making a move.

Nigerian striker, Victor Osimhen is enjoying a fantastic season for Napoli, who look set to win Serie A. At the time of writing, the forward has 19 goals to his name in 22 league appearances and could go on to win the Champions League with Napoli this season.

At 24 years of age, Osimhen has many years at the top level and his pace and movement make him a constant threat on the pitch. However, Osimhen could choose to stay in Naples following a successful season and there are rumours Paris Saint-Germain are sniffing about, which would make it difficult for any other team to afford the transfer.

Staying with French football and one man who could be available for a reasonable fee and is going somewhat under the radar is Jonathan David. The 23 year old Canadian striker has 19 goals to his name in Ligue 1 this season and that makes him joint top scorer with Kylian Mbappé.

David scored 15 goals in the league last season and while some may see Ligue 1 is the weakest of the top five leagues in Europe, David would be the most affordable option of the strikers highlighted on this page.
