On Friday night, Dundalk host Shamrock Rovers at Oriel Park, as the visitors look to continue their bright start to the Irish Premier Division campaign.
Dundalk have endured an inconsistent campaign in the Irish Premier Division so far, as the home team has taken just 11 points from as many league games. The tally leaves Stephen McDonnell’s side just four points clear of the relegation zone in the Irish top-flight.
They have also failed to win in their last three matches in the Irish Premier Division after a 1-1 draw against Finn Harps last time out. In fact, Dundalk have won just two of their last 14 league matches.
A particularly disappointing aspect of Dundalk’s campaign so far has been their home form, as the home team have recorded just one win in their last nine league matches on home soil.
A lack of goals has played a big part in that recent poor home form, as they have failed to score in six of their last nine league games.
Shamrock Rovers have started their title defence in a strong fashion, as the visitors are currently top of the division, six points clear of second-place St. Patrick’s Athletic.
A 1-1 home draw against Derry City last time out means that Rovers are now 33 games unbeaten in the Irish Premier Division, a record that stretches back to 2019. However, the draw also ended a seven-game winning run in the Irish top-flight for the reigning champions.
Stephen Bradley’s team has been relatively prolific of late, scoring at least two goals in four of their last five Premier Division outings.
The visitors also have a strong recent away record in the league, as they are unbeaten in 16 matches on home soil, having recorded four straight away wins.
