Can Aston Villa upset the odds against Manchester United?

Aston Villa will be looking to keep their faint European dreams alive when Manchester City visit Villa Park on Sunday.

Villa find themselves tenth in the Premier League table – ten points behind fifth-place West Ham – although they do have a game in hand over many of their rivals.

Meanwhile, Man Utd sit second in the standings – 13 points behind Manchester City and four points ahead of third-place Leicester City.

Villa head into Sunday’s clash having won just one of their previous six home games in the Premier League.

To make matters worse, Dean Smith’s men are also conceding an average of just over 1.5 goals per game at Villa Park in all competitions this season.

On a brighter note, Villa were able to end a run of just one win in eight league games by beating Everton 2-1 last weekend.

Goals from Ollie Watkins and Anwar El Ghazi sealed the deal for Smith’s side at Goodison Park, following a 2-2 draw with West Bromwich Albion the weekend before.

Watkins has now bagged 13 goals and four assists in the league this term, while El Ghazi has eight league goals to his name.

Despite losing 3-2 on Thursday, Man Utd booked their spot in the Europa League final, thanks to a mammoth 6-2 victory over Roma in the first leg.

In the Premier League, Man Utd are currently enjoying a 13 games unbeaten streak – having picked up seven wins and six draws in that time.

It is also worth pointing out that Solskjaer’s men have only lost one of their previous 27 league matches.

Of course, the 13-point gulf between them and Man City means the Red Devils waved goodbye to their title hopes a long time ago.

However, Man Utd look set to record a respectable second-place finish, despite pressure from the likes of Leicester, Chelsea and West Ham.

Head-to-head: Remarkably, Man Utd have only lost one of their last 38 meetings with Aston Villa in all competitions.

Solskjaer’s side claimed a 2-1 victory in the reverse fixture back in January, thanks to goals from Anthony Martial and Bruno Fernandes.

Team news: Morgan Sanson and Trezeguet are both injured for Villa, although Jack Grealish is nearing a return.

Man Utd trio Anthony Martial, Dan James and Phil Jones all look set to miss the remainder of the campaign through injury.

Ultimately, the Red Devils are expected to beat Aston Villa and cement second place in the table on Sunday.

Forebet predicts that Man Utd will claim all three points at Villa Park, with over 2.5 total goals looking likely.
