Barcelona’s impressive six-match winning streak in La Liga was brought to an end by Real Madrid in the recent El Clasico as they suffered a 2-1 defeat at the Bernabeu, but Ronald Koeman’s side return to the Nou Camp for this upcoming clash against Getafe where they’ll be keen to bounce back with a win.
The bigger picture shows that Barcelona have lost just once in their last 20 matches overall which includes 16 wins but such are the fine margins in this season’s La Liga that the defeat to Real Madrid has resulted in Barcelona dropping down to 3rd place.
Nevertheless, Barcelona have been hard to beat at home once again in this season’s La Liga campaign, suffering just the one defeat but winning 10 of their 15 matches to date at the Nou Camp and have won nine of their last 12 matches as well.
Five of these nine wins have been by a 2-goal or more margin so Barcelona look in reasonable shape to secure a straightforward win here.
The hosts are expected to be without forward Braithwaite while midfielder Coutinho and forward Fati are rated as doubtful.
Getafe may well be fearing the worst as they make their way to the Nou Camp for this tough looking midweek La Liga clash as they’ve failed to win any of their last six matches in the Spanish top flight which has resulted in Getafe remaining in 15th place and just four points above the relegation zone.
Defeats against Real Valladolid and Cadiz along with four draws have prevented Getafe from pulling further away from the bottom three in La Liga and now face a tough prospect against a Barcelona outfit who’ll be itching to return to winning ways.
Indeed, Getafe have struggled of late as the visitors have managed to register just one win out of their last 13 matches overall with their solitary success during this lean period being a 3-0 home win over Valencia.
Results away from home have also been poor as Getafe have lost five of their last six matches on the road with defeats incurred at Athletic Bilbao, Sevilla, Real Madrid, Real Betis and Real Valladolid with three of these losses being by a 2-goal margin or higher.
To make matters worse, Getafe will be without defenders, Cabaco (knee injury) and Nyom (suspended) along with forward Poveda for this trip.
Barcelona should therefore record an easy win here.
