Lille will be seeking to extend their lead at the top of the French Ligue 1 to six points over title rivals, PSG, when they play host to Montpellier at their Stade Pierre-Mauroy on Wednesday night.

Recent back-to-back wins away from home against Metz and PSG, the latter in what could prove to be a pivotal result, has helped lift Lille back to the top of the domestic top flight and having lost just one of their last 14 matches overall, the hosts look in good shape to pick up another vital three points here.

Lille’s one slip-up came in the shape of a 2-1 loss at home to Nimes but the hosts have otherwise been in impressive form, winning 10 of these last 14 matches while at home, Lille have lost just twice all season.

The hosts boast a solid looking record of  W9 D5 L2, 25 goals for and just 10 against and includes eight clean sheets at their Stade Pierre-Mauroy so far this term.

Lille are expected to be without forward David, defender Pied and midfielder Yazici for this clash but forward Yilmaz (10 goals) has been in good form of late.

Montpellier remained in 8th place in Ligue 1 despite extending their unbeaten run in the French top flight to 10 matches overall with a 3-3 draw at home with Marseille, but they face a tough outing on Wednesday night when they travel to Lille.

The visitors have been involved in six stalemates within this 10-game spell which means Montpellier have picked up just four wins during this sequence, three of which were achieved on home turf at their Stade de la Mosson, but results away from home have been more modest.

Montpellier have managed to register just one win out of their last eight matches on their travels of late.

It came in the form of a 2-1 win away at Lyon but defeats at Marseille and PSG show their vulnerable side against the top teams.

The draw has dominated Montpellier’s results away from home as their record of  W5 D7 L3 indicates, and they’ve also failed to beat Lille in each of their last five meetings against their hosts.

Montpellier’s only absentee is likely to be defender Oyongo as they look to contain the league leaders.
