Sampdoria and Verona to both score in Serie A clash

Sampdoria will be keen to bounce back from their recent 2-0 defeat at home to Napoli on the weekend as they hold home advantage again at their Stadio Comunale Luigi Ferraris when they entertain Hellas Verona in this mid-table clash in Serie A.

However, having registered just one win out of their last eight matches overall in the Italian top flight, this may be easier said than done for 10th placed Sampdoria who have struggled to pick up results in recent times with their one success during this lean spell being a 1-0 home win over strugglers, Torino.

Four defeats within this sequence to Lazio, Atalanta, Bologna and Napoli further enhance reasons to avoid backing Sampdoria for a straight win here but goals for both teams in Sampdoria’s home matches have been prevalent.

10 of Sampdoria’s 15 home matches to date have resulted in both teams scoring while Sampdoria have scored at least once in 12 of their 15 home matches to date as well.

Hellas Verona slumped to a fourth defeat in five matches in Serie A on the weekend when they were handed a 1-0 defeat at home to Lazio which followed previous losses against AC Milan, Sassuolo and Atalanta.

The visitors occupy 9th place on the Serie A standings but they too have produced inconsistent results throughout this campaign which has meant that they’ve had to be content with a mid-table position in the Italian top flight.

Recent wins on the road at Benevento and Cagliari will give Hellas Verona hope of picking up another valuable three points on their travels this Saturday but these have been Verona’s only highlights in their last eight away matches.

Within this period, Verona have suffered defeats at Bologna, Roma, Udinese and Sassuolo, so the prospects of a straight away win here do seem unlikely but goals for both teams do look likely.

Hellas Verona have scored in 12 of their 15 away matches so far this season and will fancy their chances against an ordinary Sampdoria defensive unit.

The previous two meetings have also seen both teams score and this trend could well continue on Saturday at the Stadio Comunale Luigi Ferraris as both teams look to bounce back from defeats last time out in Serie A.
