Ajax welcome Young Boys to the Johan Cruyff Arena for the first leg of their Europa League Round of 16 tie on Thursday.
Ajax booked their spot in the last 16 with a 4-2 aggregate win over Lille last month, while Young Boys beat Bayer Leverkusen 6-3 to progress.
Ajax began the season in the Champions League, but after finishing behind Liverpool and Atalanta in Group D, they dropped down into the Europa League.
The Dutch champions beat Lille 2-1 in France in the first leg of their Round of 32 tie, before beating the French side by the same scoreline at home.
In the Eredivisie, Ajax have only lost two of their 24 matches this term, picking up 19 wins and three draws in the process.
Erik ten Hag’s men currently sit six points clear at the summit of the Dutch top-flight and have a game in hand over second-place PSV.
Ajax also boast a mammoth goal difference of +57, having netted a whopping 76 goals while conceding just 19.
On the other hand, Young Boys finished second in Europa League Group A earlier in the campaign – three points behind Roma and five points clear of CFR Cluj and CSKA Sofia.
The Swiss outfit then beat Bayer Leverkusen 4-3 at home in the Round of 32, before claiming a 2-0 victory in Germany in the second leg.
Remarkably, Young Boys have lost just one of their 24 domestic league games this season, securing 15 wins and eight draws along the way.
With a hefty goal difference of +23, Young Boys sit 19 points clear of second-place Servette in the Swiss Super League standings.
It is also worth noting that Young Boys have scored at least one goal in each of their previous 15 Europa League games.
Head-to-head: The only previous European meetings between Ajax and Young Boys came all the way back in the 1987/88 edition of the Cup Winners’ Cup.
The two sides met in the quarter-finals, with Ajax winning both legs 1-0. However, you can’t read anything into those results when it comes to assessing Thursday’s match.
Team news: Ajax will be without injured duo Noussair Mazraoui and Daley Blind this week, while goalkeeper Andre Onana is serving a doping ban.
Young Boys have three injury absentees at the moment – Estaban Petignat, Chistropher Martins Pereira and David von Ballmoos.
Ajax and Young Boys are both enjoying successful seasons, but the Dutch side’s superiority is likely to shine through on Thursday.
