With the Portuguese top-flight title now looking more and more like heading to Sporting Lisbon, much of the focus in the Primeira Liga will be on some of the other issues still left to be decided.
One of those issues is who will be playing European football and in what competition next season. Two of the teams who are in that particular discussion, Sporting Braga and Vitoria Guimaraes meet on Tuesday night at the Estadio Municipal de Braga.
The home side currently occupy third-place, which would see them play in the Champions League qualifiers next season. However, Braga are just two points behind second-place reigning champions Porto, while they lead Benfica in fourth by four points.
Their position in the table is a respectable one, but they will know that finishing second place would mean going straight into the lucrative Champions League group stages.
Carlos Carvalhal’s team has enjoyed decent form of late in the Portuguese top-flight, as they are unbeaten in seven league outings while recording six victories.
Braga have certainly had an eye for goal of late in the Primeira Liga, as they have scored at least two goals in five of their last six league outings. Only the league’s top-two have scored more goals than the home team this season in the Portuguese top-flight.
Vitoria Guimaraes are on the fringes of the European spots, as the visitors currently sit sixth-place in the table, six points adrift of the top-five.
However, they have a game in-hand on fifth-place Pacos de Ferreira. Unfortunately for the visitors that spare game is a tough trip to Braga.
A recent run of underwhelming league form has hampered the visitor's chances of playing European football next season. However, a 2-1 home win over Boavista last time out ended a five-game winless run for the visitors in the Portuguese top-flight.
Forebet predicts that Sporting Braga will record what could be a vital victory in a high-scoring encounter that could dash the visitor's hopes of European football next season.
