M’gladbach play host to Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga on Saturday afternoon at their Stadion im BORUSSIA-PARK, looking for a way out of their current slump which has seen the hosts fail to win any of their last five matches overall in the German top flight.
Defeats against Koln, Mainz and RB Leipzig have outweighed their minimal success in points picked up in draws with Union Berlin and Wolfsberg and as a result, M’gladbach have dropped down to 9th place in the Bundesliga standings.
M’gladbach still remain in the hunt for a possible top six finish though as they trail their visitors, Bayer Leverkusen, by a four-point margin but this deficit could be slashed to just a single point with a win at home on Saturday afternoon.
Form at home has been okay but a little inconsistent as M’gladbach have won 5, drawn 4 and lost 3 but they’ve lost their last two matches at home on the trot; however, 10 of M’gladbach’s 12 home matches have seen both teams score.
Midfielder Stindl (suspended) and defender Jantschke (muscle injury) are expected to be absent for this clash.
Bayer Leverkusen have also struggled for consistency of late in the Bundesliga as the visitors have managed to pick up just the two wins out of their last 11 matches overall which came in the shape of victories over Borussia Dortmund and Stuttgart, but both of these were recorded on home turf at their BayArena.
These wins have enabled Bayer Leverkusen to just about hang onto their 6th place spot but six defeats within this 11-match period means that the visitors are by no means guaranteed the three points here, and their position in the top six is looking increasingly under threat.
Eight out of these last 11 matches though has seen both teams score and this perhaps underlines Leverkusen’s inconsistent streak as the visitors have been unable to keep clean sheets in recent weeks.
Form away from home has also suffered as Leverkusen have lost three of their last four matches on the road with defeats at Eintracht Frankfurt, Union Berlin and RB Leipzig while first choice keeper, Hradecky, is doubtful along with defenders Bender, Frimpong and Fosu-Mensah who all have injuries.
With neither side in particularly good form and susceptible at the back, both look likely to score here.
