Everton to Build on Liverpool Win with Victory Over Southampton

The final match to be played in the English Premier League this weekend takes place on Monday the 1st of March as Everton meet Southampton at Goodison Park.

The hosts begin the weekend in 7th place on 40 points while the visitors are in 14th place on 30 points.

Everton come into the game having recorded an excellent 2-0 victory at Liverpool in the Merseyside derby last weekend.

It was the first time Everton have defeated Liverpool this century and it did not take long for them to make the breakthrough with Richarlison finding the back of the net after only 3 minutes. The Toffees extended their advantage from the penalty spot in the 83rd minute to seal an historic victory.

It was an important win for Everton who had lost their previous two Premier League games against Fulham and Manchester City at home and keeps them in the hunt for Champions League qualification.

However, it was their first victory in 4 Premier League matches and Everton will be hoping to find some consistency in their results, especially at home. Trends show Everton have won just 1 of their 9 most recent home games in all competitions.

You must go back to the 19th of December to find the last time Everton won at Goodison Park in the Premier League and they will be hoping to put that right in this match.

Southampton make the trip north having suffered a 3-0 defeat at Leeds United on Tuesday night in the Premier League.

With the score 0-0 at half-time, it was Leeds who came out strongly in the second half and Southampton had no answer as the hosts scored 3 goals to take the game away from the Saints.

It was another disappointing result for Southampton who were hoping to build on their 1-1 draw at home against Chelsea in their previous match.

Trends show Southampton have won just 1 of their last 13 matches in Premier League. There have been 4 straight away losses in the Premier League and Southampton have conceded 2 or more goals in each of those defeats, including 9 at Manchester United and 3 at both Newcastle United and Leeds United.

Southampton have also failed to score in 4 of their last 5 away Premier League fixtures.

Team news and Everton could bring striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin back into the starting XI. Yerry Mina and Jean-Philippe Gbamin are unavailable due to injury.

Southampton will be without Kyle Walker-Peters, Theo Walcott, William Smallbone, and Michael Obafemi due to injury. Ibrahima Diallo is hoping to recover from a muscle injury and Danny Ings should return to the starting XI.

This is a great opportunity for Everton to record back-to-back victories in the Premier League. The Toffees have been struggling to keep clean sheets at home but should take maximum points against a struggling Southampton, with both teams scoring.
