Can Liverpool end their five-match winless run against Tottenham Hotspur?

The wheels are coming off of Liverpool’s title challenge and the Reds are clinging onto fifth place going into Thursday night’s match away to Tottenham Hotspur.

West Ham’s win against Crystal Palace in midweek sent them above Liverpool in the standings. Now, both Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are chasing the Hammers for the top four. Liverpool are winless in five straight league games having drawn three and lost twice.

Southampton and Burnley defeated the Reds during that time. Jose Mourinho will be aiming to do the same and get revenge on Liverpool. The Reds defeated Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield in December 2-1 by scoring a late winner.

Mourinho was defiant following that loss claiming his team were the better side – which they were for only portions of the match. Spurs are unbeaten in four straight league games with two of those fixtures ending in wins.

The Tottenham manager could park the bus against Liverpool on Thursday night. He used that tactic to start the game versus Liverpool at Anfield and the team struggled. Once they came out of their shell, Spurs looked more likely of winning the match.

Injuries continue to play a big part in Liverpool’s season. Jurgen Klopp should have Jordan Henderson back from a recent muscle injury. The captain could slot into defence with Fabinho. Joel Matip could be preferred to play at centre-back if fully fit, however.

Naby Keita and Diogo Jota are both ruled out. Klopp could once again play Xherdan Shaqiri and Thiago together in midfield. The duo has been impressive in the middle of the park.

Mourinho is without attacking midfielder Giovani Lo Celso. Meanwhile, doubts surround Dele Alli, Matt Doherty, and Ben Davies’ participation. Alli is linked with a transfer to Paris Saint-Germain. At the moment, Spurs are blocking the move.

Spurs have taken 15 points from 27 possible at home this season. They have outscored opponents 14-9 in those nine matches. Liverpool’s road form has been abysmal. They have taken 11 points from 27 on offer scoring 16 times and allowing 13 goals.

The Reds should struggle to break down Tottenham Hotspur’s defence and get past the bus. Tottenham Hotspur should get some revenge on the Reds as the two clubs finish in a draw on Thursday night. The Premier League title fight for both clubs should end on matchday 21.

Liverpool have won five straight games versus Tottenham Hotspur in all competitions. That run of good form should end as these teams finish in a stalemate.
