Chelsea host Wolverhampton Wanderers at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday, just two days after Frank Lampard was sacked as Blues boss.
Lampard left the club ninth in the Premier League table on 29 points – five points shy of the Champions League places.
Meanwhile, Wolves find themselves fourteenth in the standings – seven points behind Chelsea and ten points clear of the relegation zone.
A run of just two wins in eight league games ultimately saw Lampard lose his job, with the Blues suffering five defeats during that period.
Chelsea beat West Ham just after Christmas, before edging Fulham last week. However, Leicester secured an easy 2-0 win over Chelsea just three days later.
The Blues beat Luton Town 3-1 in the FA Cup on Sunday, with Tammy Abraham netting a hat-trick, as well as Timo Werner missing a penalty.
Still, with Chelsea sitting 11 points off the pace in the Premier League title race, the hierarchy were left with little choice but to sack Lampard.
Similarly, Wolves are enduring a difficult period themselves at the moment. They have only managed to win one of their last nine league games.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s men have struggled at both ends of the pitch, although they have been especially poor defensively.
With no clean sheets in their previous 12 league games, there is no denying that Wolves deserve to be in the bottom half of the table.
Interestingly, Wolves’ last win came against Chelsea in December. Since then, they have recorded three draws and three defeats.
Head-to-head: Wolves beat the Blues 2-1 last month, with Pedro Neto netting the winning goal in the 95th minute.
However, Chelsea did the double over Wolves last term, winning 5-2 a Molineux, before claiming a 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge.
Team news: N’Golo Kante is currently Chelsea’s only injury doubt, although it is unclear who will be selecting the team on Wednesday.
Wolves will be without Jonny, Fernando Marcal and Raul Jimenez, while Daniel Podence is also likely to be sidelined through injury.
Given the recent records of Chelsea and Wolves, this is likely to be a high-scoring game with plenty of goal-scoring opportunities.
