Having won their last three league matches on the trot in Ligue 1, Saturday’s hosts, Monaco, will be in confident mood as they prepare for the visit of Marseille to their Stade Louis II as the hosts look to hand their visitors a fourth defeat on the trot in all competitions.

Monaco seem to have hit form at just the right time as the hosts bring an impressive three-match winning streak into this clash with victories gained over Lorient 5-2 away, Angers 3-0 at home and a 3-2 win on the road at Montpellier, which has maintained Monaco’s challenge for a top five finish in Ligue 1.

Indeed, Monaco have captured four wins from their last five matches overall while results and form at home has been very consistent; Monaco have lost just once on home soil so far this season and goals have also featured on a regular basis too - nine of Monaco’s 10 home matches have resulted in over 2.5 goals being scored.

Forwards, Volland (10 goals) and Ben Yedder (9 goals) will be keen to add to their respective goal-tallies here.

Marseille stumbled to a third defeat on the trot in all competitions on Wednesday night when they slumped to a 1-0 defeat at home to Lens which opened up a gap of four points between themselves and 5th placed Rennes and things don’t get any easier with this upcoming visit against a resurgent Monaco outfit on Saturday.

A previous 2-1 loss away at PSG in the Super Cup was followed by a 2-1 defeat home by second from bottom club, Nimes, while the bigger picture paints a gloomy outlook for Andre Villas-Boas’s team as they’ve managed to collect just one win out of their last seven matches overall in the French top flight.

That rare win came in the form of a 3-1 home win against Montpellier but four defeats within this lean seven-match period suggests the visitors will do well to walk away with even a point at Monaco.

However, Marseille had shown promising form on the road earlier in this campaign as the visitors put together a six-match unbeaten run which included five wins, but they’ve since gone off the boil.

They should at least contribute to the goal-count though as they’ve scored in eight of their nine away matches to date.
