On Thursday night, Vitoria Guimaraes will look to improve their chances of a top-six finish in the Portuguese Primeira Liga when they host Nacional Madeira at the Estadio Dom Afonso Henriques.
Vitoria Guimaraes look to be in with a realistic chance of making the top-five this season. The home side is five points outside the European spots but have two games in hand on the Pacos de Ferreira who occupy the last European qualification spot.
The home side has hampered their chances of breaking into those European places by failing to win either of their last two games in the Portuguese top-flight.
To be fair to Joao Henriques’ team the first of the two winless games was a 3-2 home defeat by Porto, which is understandable.
Last time out in the league, Vitoria Guimaraes drew 2-2 at Moreirense, which wasn’t a terrible result considering that their opponents are just behind them in the league table.
Guimaraes have certainly had an eye for goal of late in the Portuguese top-flight, scoring at least two goals in four of their last five league outings.
While Vitoria Guimaraes are focussing on the top-five, Nacional are looking to just avoid being sucked into the relegation zone. The visitors are just a point clear of the relegation play-off spot and two clear of the actual drop zone.
The team from Funchal head into this clash in awful league form, having lost five of their last six games in the Portuguese top-flight.
They have had tough games in the last four outings though, facing both Sporting and Porto. Their main problem of late has been scoring goals, as they have scored just twice in their last four outings in the Primeira Liga.
Forebet predicts that Vitoria Guimaraes will record a victory to move closer to their goal while leaving Nacional in a perilous position in the league table.
