Angers have no answer to PSG firepower

Angers have no answer to PSG firepower

A heavy 3-0 defeat away at Monaco on the weekend handed Angers their first defeat in three matches in the French top flight, but although they return to the more familiar surroundings of their Stade Raymond-Kopa for this Thursday night clash, Angers are expected to face a tough time at the office against an in-form PSG outfit.

Angers had previously picked up a point in a 1-1 draw away from home at Nantes which they followed up with back-to-back wins against Marseille and Lille both by 2-1 margins home and away respectively, but results at home this season have been inconsistent.

The hosts have won four, drawn one and lost four of their nine matches on home soil to date in this season’s Ligue 1 campaign.

They’re also the joint-second lowest goal-scorers at home in the division, failing to score in four of their nine home matches so far this term.

This last statistic doesn’t bode well for the upcoming visit of PSG whom they’ve lost their last 10 meetings against on the trot.

PSG know they could move top of Ligue 1 with all three points at Angers on Thursday night and having put together a five-match unbeaten run prior to this clash, the visitors will be in confident mood ahead of this encounter.

Recent victories over Lorient, Strasbourg and Brest have helped lift the Paris-based club into 2nd spot and just one point behind the current league leaders, Lyon, while also winning five of their nine away matches so far this term.

Wins on the road at Nice 3-0, Reims 2-0, Nimes 4-0, Nantes 3-0 and a 3-1 win at Montpellier have not only handed PSG valuable victories on their travels but has also seen the visitors win by handsome margins too and this could one again be the case when they travel to Angers for this midweek clash at the Stade Raymond-Kopa.

The bigger picture also shows that PSG have won 15 out of their last 21 matches on the road in Ligue 1 with 11 of these 15 victories also being by a 2-goal margin or over, so the visitors look in good shape to not only pick up all three points here but also cover the -1.5 asian handicap line too.
