Goals in short supply when Wolfsburg entertain RB Leipzig

Saturday’s edition of the Bundesliga features a top six afternoon clash between hosts, Wolfsburg, and 2nd placed RB Leipzig, with both teams looking to further enhance their claims for a possible top four finish.

Although Wolfsburg seem to have gone off the boil slightly in recent weeks in the German top flight having managed to pick up just the one win out of their last four matches overall, they still occupy a place in the top six and are still unbeaten on home turf at their VOLKSWAGEN ARENA.

Recent defeats against Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund (both away from home) and a 2-2 draw with Union Berlin have overshadowed Wolfsburg’s 1-0 home win over Stuttgart but the hosts will be confident about their chances in their own backyard where they’re yet to taste defeat this season.

Back-to-back 0-0 draws with Bayer Leverkusen and Augsburg were just the precursor to the hosts stringing together an impressive five-match winning streak but they’re expected to face perhaps their sternest test to date when RB Leipzig visit.

RB Leipzig currently occupy 2nd place just two points behind the Bundesliga leaders, Bayern Munich, ahead of this upcoming trip to Wolfsburg where the visitors will be desperate to bounce back following last weekend’s 3-1 defeat at home to Borussia Dortmund.

That loss ended a previous solid looking eight-match unbeaten run for RB Leipzig who looked to be building ominous momentum under manager, Julian Nagelsmann, which included victories over Freiburg, Arminia Bielefeld, Werder Bremen, Hoffenheim and Stuttgart.

The visitors have suffered just two defeats throughout this German top flight campaign and just one away from home to date as RB Leipzig have picked up wins at Augsburg, Hoffenheim and Stuttgart and have earned points on the road at Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich in 1-1 and 3-3 draws respectively.

Goals have been in short supply though where RB Leipzig are concerned, especially away from home as six of their seven matches have produced just two goals or less as Nagelsmann’s side have been hard to break down.

Indeed, six of the previous seven meetings between these two sides have produced low-scoring affairs and this Saturday could be no exception especially as both teams failed to win last weekend.
