Chelsea manager Frank Lampard is under fire once more at Stamford Bridge. Not only are the Blues’ star players misfiring, but the manager has failed to get the best out of his team due to his tactics.

The Blues have won just once in their last six league matches going into the third round of the FA Cup versus League Two club Morecambe. On paper, Chelsea should thrash the Shrimps, but based on form, that may not occur.

Morecambe are chasing qualification to the League Two playoffs. They are seventh in the division which has them in the playoff picture currently. Derek Adams’ team are in fine form going into the FA Cup third round.

The Shrimps have won four straight League Two matches and five of their last six in the division. Their form is the opposite of Chelsea, but they are a League Two team.

Morecambe are well down the English football pyramid and will want nothing more than to complete a giant-killing against last season’s FA Cup semifinalists. However, Chelsea will be playing at home, where the Blues have won six of 13 matches in all competitions. They have drawn five times at home.

Adams’ team have posted a 6W-2D-5L record on the road this season. They have allowed 20 goals on their travels for an average of 1.54 per match. Chelsea’s attack should take advantage of Morecambe’s lower-league defence.

Lampard needs a win against Morecambe at home this weekend. Not only would a loss – or draw – be humiliating, but it could see the manager sacked. Lampard is currently second in sportsbooks’ odds to be the next manager sacked. The manager is at odds of 3/1 to be fired by the Blues.

In need of a win, Lampard will most likely play his strongest squad available. Of course, that means he will start Mason Mount, who, despite not being productive in goals, can do no wrong in Lampard’s eyes.

Only centre-back Andreas Christensen and full-back Reece James are on the Chelsea injured list. The duo is ruled out of the game and will not play.

Chelsea must win on Saturday and should do so. However, don’t expect Chelsea to run away with the match early on. They could struggle to get into gear against a hyped-up Morecambe at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues should win against Morecambe at home preserving Lampard’s job for at least another week. Expect it to be a low-scoring game in spite of Chelsea’s attacking strength.
