Low-scoring encounter expected between Sevilla and Villarreal
Sevilla FC vs Villarreal CF - 29/12/2020

Tuesday afternoon features a La Liga clash between Sevilla and Villarreal at the Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán battle it out to further their respective hopes of cementing a top four spot in the Spanish top flight.
After having to endure a difficult period during October which produced just one point from the possible 12 on offer in a four-game stretch thanks to a 1-1 draw away from home at Barcelona, Sevilla seem to have got themselves back on track.
Three defeats out of these four matches against Granada, Eibar and Athletic Bilbao had threatened Sevilla’s ambitions of producing a successful campaign but the hosts have since rallied in impressive fashion.
Sevilla have lost just one of their subsequent seven matches overall in La Liga which was to Real Madrid but wins over Osasuna and Celta Vigo and a point in a draw with Real Valladolid on home turf have helped improve the host’s situation as they look ahead to this clash with Villarreal.
However, goals have been hard to come by as five of Sevilla’s six home matches so far have resulted in under 2.5 goals.
Villarreal already occupy a place in the top four as the visitors sit in 4th place in La Liga thanks to a stubborn start to their campaign which has resulted in being handed just one defeat so far this season.
That loss came in the shape of a heavy 4-0 defeat away from home at Barcelona but since that heavy loss, Villarreal have also proved to be hard to beat as they’ve put together a solid looking 12-match sequence without defeat in the Spanish top flight.
Villarreal’s current league position of 4th place is largely thanks to an unbeaten record at home to date this season, and while they’ve lost just once on the road so far in this campaign, Villarreal have also managed to only pick up just two away wins this term as well.
The draw has dominated proceedings on the road where Villarreal have been concerned, indeed only Celta Vigo and Huesca (five draws) have been involved in more stalemates than the visitors while four of Villarreal’s seven away matches have also seen under 2.5 goals.
Both Sevilla and Villarreal have found scoring goals hard to come by this season and this could end up being another low-scoring affair.
