Spurs tipped to edge Wolves in high-scoring thriller

Wolverhampton Wanderers welcome Tottenham Hotspur to Molineux on Sunday as the busy festive Premier League schedule continues.

Wolves currently find themselves eleventh in the table on 20 points – five points behind sixth-place Tottenham.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s men head into this clash on a poor run of three defeats in their previous four league outings.

Following back-to-back losses against Liverpool and Aston Villa, Wolves managed to stop the rot with a 2-0 victory over Chelsea.

But last time out, the Wanderers were beaten 2-1 by Burnley, with Fabio Silva netting a late consolation goal from the penalty spot.

Wolves enjoyed 64% possession against Burnley and even managed to register 15 shots, but they failed to come away from Turf Moor with anything to show for their efforts.

On a brighter note, Wolves have only lost one of their last six home matches in the Premier League, so they will be confident of upsetting Spurs at Molineux.

Meanwhile, Tottenham have lost just three of their last 20 Premier League games – a run stretching back to the end of last season.

Spurs have led the title race at stages this term, but a run of just one win in their last five outings has seen them slip to sixth.

After beating Arsenal, Jose Mourinho’s side drew with Crystal Palace, before losing to Liverpool last week. On Sunday, Leicester inflicted back-to-back defeats on Tottenham.

Still, Spurs booked their place in the semi-finals of the EFL Cup on Wednesday, beating Championship side Stoke 3-1.

It is worth mentioning that Tottenham have won exactly half of their last 12 games in all competitions by scoring over 1.5 goals.

Head-to-head: Wolves got the better of Tottenham back in March, claiming a 3-2 victory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

In fact, Wolves have beaten Spurs in seven of their previous ten encounters in the Premier League, although Tottenham have scored over 1.5 goals in four of their last six away matches in this fixture.

Team news: Raul Jimenez and Jonny remain long-term absentees for Wolves, while Leander Dendoncker is a doubt for Sunday’s clash.

Giovani Lo Celso is likely to be sidelined for Tottenham, while Japhet Tanganga isn’t expected to return to action until the new year.

Wolves have had the upper hand in this fixture in recent years, but it feels like the momentum is with Spurs at the moment.

Forebet predicts that Wolves and Spurs will produce a high-scoring thriller on Sunday. Over 4.5 goals are likely to be scored, with Tottenham expected to come out on top.
