Brentford and Newcastle United are just three wins away from lifting the Carabao Cup trophy. Before either team can play for the Carabao Cup trophy, however, they must get past the quarterfinal stage of the tournament.

On Tuesday night, Brentford host Newcastle United at the Brentford Community Stadium. Steve Bruce’s Newcastle United squad need to overturn a recent poor run of form to claim a win and reach the semifinals of the Carabao Cup.

The Magpies are winless in two straight games, losing 5-2 to Leeds United before drawing 1-1 with Fulham. Newcastle United reached the quarterfinals by winning on penalties 5-4 against Newport County in the fourth round.

Brentford are in great form going into the quarterfinals. They are one of two Championship teams left in the Carabao Cup. The other is Stoke City. Brentford are up to fourth in the Championship table and manager Thomas Frank will have his eyes set on performing well in both competitions.

The Bees defeated Premier League team Fulham in the fourth round, 3-0. Brentford’s squad know they can win against Premier League teams and will be glad to have drawn Newcastle United rather than either Manchester club.

Frank’s team are on a 13-game unbeaten run in the Championship. They have not lost a game since October 24 against fellow Carabao Cup quarterfinalist Stoke City.

Newcastle United last played Brentford when they were in the Championship during the 2016-17 season. The Magpies won both games in the division, outscoring Brentford 5-2.

Bruce has five players on his injured list going into the game. Jamaal Lascelles, Allan Saint-Maximin, Martin Dubravka, Javi Manquillo, and Fabian Schar are all ruled out of the game. Manquillo and Schar are recovering from positive COVID-19 tests.

Frank has three players on the injured list going into the game on Tuesday. Pontus Jansson is out of action until January with an ankle injury. Mads Roerslev Rasmussen and Shandon Baptiste are both doubts for the game due to their respective leg injuries.

Newcastle United have a difficult run of fixtures upcoming. They play Brentford on Tuesday night before playing Premier League games against Manchester City and Liverpool over the course of a five-day period.

Both Brentford and Newcastle United have a unique opportunity to win and move on to the semifinals of the Carabao Cup. The clubs should go for goal on Tuesday night as they seek a win.

The two sides should combine for over 2.5 goals scored on Tuesday night and will need penalties to sort out which side goes through. Expect both teams to score, over 2.5 goals, and a draw between them.
