Barcelona secured a vital three points in their quest to move up the La Liga table on the weekend with a 1-0 home win over Levante, and they’ll be going in search of back-to-back wins in the Spanish top flight on Wednesday night when they play host to surprise-package, Real Sociedad, at the Nou Camp.

Barcelona find themselves in somewhat unchartered territory in La Liga presently as the hosts are in 8th place despite making a bright start to the new domestic top flight campaign which saw them pick up early season victories over Villarreal 4-0 at home and a 3-0 win on the road at Celta Vigo.

However, a difficult October followed as Barcelona failed to win any of their subsequent four matches, losing to Getafe and Real Madrid (the latter being a heavy 3-1 loss at home), along with being held to draws by Sevilla and Deportivo Alaves.

Although they’ve lost their last two away matches on the trot with defeats at Atletico Madrid and Cadiz, they’ve won their last three home matches on the trot but question marks still seem to hang over the hosts - the goals market therefore appeals as four of Barcelona’s six home matches have resulted in over 2.5 goals.

Real Sociedad currently sit top of La Liga as the surprise-package of the Spanish top flight have made an impressive start to the new season and the visitors will be bringing a solid nine-match unbeaten sequence into this important clash.

This unbeaten run included a six-match winning streak which saw Real Sociedad score a total of 17 goals but they’ve drawn each of their last three matches in La Liga on the trot, being held to stalemates by Villarreal, Deportivo Alaves and Eibar respectively.

Real Sociedad still remain unbeaten on their travels though, picking up four wins and two draws and they may well fancy their chances of turning over Barcelona in their own backyard following wins at Elche, Real Betis, Celta Vigo and Cadiz.

This will undoubtedly be Real Sociedad’s biggest test away from home so far this season though and it’ll be interesting to see just how far Imanol Alguacil’s side have come as they benchmark themselves against the likes of Barcelona.

Six of the previous eight meetings have resulted in over 2.5 goals and this looks the best option here.
