Borussia Dortmund will be looking to secure top spot in Champions League Group F when they face Zenit in Russia on Tuesday.
The German side sit one point clear of second-place Lazio, while Zenit are bottom of the group with just a single point to their name.
Zenit have failed to win any of their five Champions League games this term, picking up one draw along the way.
The Russian side managed to hold Lazio to a 1-1 draw on Matchday 3, but two defeats either side of that have ended Zenit’s Champions League hopes for another season.
Not only have Zenit managed to score just three goals in Europe this season, they have also conceded 11 goals.
Having said that, things are going far better for Zenit back home. They sit joint-top of the Russian Premier League, having lost two of their 17 domestic matches.
Zenit head into Tuesday’s clash on the back of a 5-1 thrashing of Ural, with Sardar Azmoun netting a hat-trick at the weekend.
Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund have already booked their spot in the Round of 16, picking up three wins, one draw and one defeat in the process.
After losing to Lazio on Matchday 1, Dortmund secured three straight victories – including a 2-0 win over Zenit – before drawing with Lazio on Matchday 5.
The German side are among the top scoring teams in the competition. Lucien Favre’s men have netted ten goals in five matches – an average of two goals per game.
Dortmund were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw by Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday. Despite seeing 58% possession and notching up 16 shots (five on target), they were unable to snatch the win.
After ten Bundesliga games in 2020/21, Dortmund already find themselves four points behind title rivals Bayern Munich.
Head-to-head: Dortmund beat Zenit 2-0 back in October, with Jadon Sancho and Erling Haaland getting on the scoresheet.
The two sides also faced each other in the 2013/14 Champions League, with both teams winning away from home on that occasion.
Team news: Zenit may be without Dejan Lovren again on Tuesday. The defender has missed the past two games through illness.
Dortmund have a lengthy injury list, with Marcel Schmelzer, Thomas Meunier, Erling Haaland and Thomas Delaney all currently on the sidelines.
Dortmund may have a number of notable absentees, yet they still have more than enough firepower to get the job done.
