Montpellier and PSG clash to produce goals

5th placed Montpellier will play host to Ligue 1 leaders, PSG, in one of the most attractive fixtures on the Ligue 1 slate this weekend and this evening encounter promises to be an entertaining match with both teams keen to enhance their positions near the top of the domestic top flight table.

Montpellier bring a decent looking four-match winning streak into this clash having recorded wins against Saint-Etienne, Bordeaux, Strasbourg and Lorient, which have helped lift the hosts up into 5th place on the Ligue 1 ladder and level on points with 2nd placed Lille.

The hosts have won seven of their 12 matches so far this season while results at home have seen Montpellier dispense with unnecessary draws as they’ve won four and lost two of their six matches played at their Stade de la Mosson.

Whilst form and results overall appear to be heading in the right direction for Montpellier, they’ll be up against PSG here, who also carry a serious threat in the final third  of the field, so perhaps the goal markets would be prudent here;

Indeed, five of Montpellier’s six home matches to date have seen over 2.5 goals.

Onto PSG, and the visitors continue to fight on two fronts as they not only sit top of the domestic Ligue 1 table but they also lead their group in the Champions League, albeit on goal difference, and head into this upcoming tasty fixture against Montpellier on the back of an impressive 3-1 win away at Manchester United.

The margins for error for PSG manager, Thomas Tuchel, appear to be very slim indeed as he’s found himself under scrutiny in recent weeks following the Paris club’s losses to RB Leipzig in the Champions League and to Monaco in Ligue 1.

Both of these losses were incurred on their travels, while so far in this season’s Ligue 1 campaign overall, PSG have won four and lost two to date on the road and they may have   one eye on their forthcoming Champions League clash against Istanbul Basaksehir too.

Although they’ve picked up wins at Nice, Reims, Nimes and Nantes, they’ve also lost at Lens and Monaco too, so the goals market also appeals with the visitors too - especially as four of their six away matches have also resulted in over 2.5 goals.
