Athletic Bilbao to take the honours over Celta Vigo

Athletic Bilbao will take a two-match unbeaten sequence into their upcoming clash against Celta Vigo at their San Mamés Barria having recorded a 4-0 thrashing of Real Betis and then backing that emphatic win up with a solid point on the road with a 1-1 draw at Getafe.

Results overall have been inconsistent for Athletic Bilbao but the hosts have slowly made improvements in the last few weeks as they’ve won three of their last six matches which upon first glance doesn’t appear to be too great, but is better than their solitary win from their opening four matches of the season.

Athletic Bilbao suffered a 1-0 defeat at home to Cadiz in their opening home game but they’ve since registered three wins on the trot with victories recorded against Levante 2-0, Sevilla 2-1 and the aforementioned 4-0 trouncing of Real Betis.

In addition, Athletic Bilbao hold a decent record against their Friday night’s visitors, Celta Vigo, too, as they’re unbeaten in their previous five meetings at home against them.

Celta Vigo find themselves in a disappointing position near the foot of the La Liga table as the visitors sit third from bottom ahead of this tough looking trip to Bilbao on Friday night but they’ll be doing so on the back of a 3-1 home win against Granada.

However, that recent win ended a miserable run of eight matches without a win in the Spanish top flight which included five defeats in the shape of Barcelona, Osasuna, Atletico Madrid, Real Sociedad and Sevilla respectively.

In addition, draws with Real Valladolid, Levante and Elche have seen Celta Vigo pick up useful points but these haven’t been enough to lift the visitors out of the bottom three of La Liga, while their form on the road continues to be a major concern.

Celta Vigo have managed to pick up just two wins out of their last 37 matches on their travels which is an extremely poor record indeed which have been registered at Villarreal and Real Sociedad but also include a total of 19 losses as well.

The visitors have also drawn 16 blanks out of these 37 matches and their struggles in front of goal could play a major factor in determining the outcome of this Friday night clash.
