Real Sociedad remain top of the table heading into the next round of fixtures in La Liga, following a 1-0 win away at newly-promoted Cadiz. Swedish striker Isak scored the only goal of the game to hand Sociedad all 3pts in the 65th-minute against a Cadiz side that have proven tricky to beat this season.
Sociedad top the table by 3pts but 2nd-placed Atletico Madrid have two games in hand. Sunday’s hosts have won five of their last six matches in all competitions, only losing once in the Europa League to Napoli.
Five of Real Sociedad’s last six outings have produced under 2.5 goals and they have kept clean sheets in four of those matches.
Real Sociedad have had mixed success against Villarreal in recent seasons. The hosts have won two, lost two, and drawn one of their last five league meetings with The Yellow Submarine. Both teams have scored and over 2.5 goals have been produced in four of those five encounters. There hasn’t been more than a 1-goal margin separating the two clubs in any of their last four head to heads in La Liga.
Villarreal claimed a 1-1 draw at home to Real Madrid last weekend, despite going a goal down in the 2nd-minute. The Yellow Submarine were awarded a penalty in the last 15-minutes, which Moreno converted to secure the hosts a share of the spoils. That draw means Villarreal remain in 3rd-place heading into their clash with Real Sociedad.
Villarreal have had the better of Real Sociedad over the years, winning 18, drawing 14, and only losing 10 of the duo’s last 42 competitive and non-competitive matches. However, Real Sociedad claimed a 2-1 when at Villarreal when the pair last locked horns in July.
Three of Villarreal’s last six matches have produced under 2.5 goals and both teams have scored in four of their last six outings as well. The visitors have lost two of their last three away games 3-1 and are yet to win on the road this season, while Sociedad have won their last three home games La Liga.

However, Real Sociedad have been excellent at home while Villarreal have struggled on their travels, which suggests that a win for the hosts is the most likely result on Sunday.
