Friday night’s action in the German Bundesliga features the clash between Wolfsburg and Werder Bremen at the VOLKSWAGEN ARENA with the hosts looking to steal a march on their rivals in the top six ahead of this weekend’s domestic top flight action.
Sixth placed Wolfsburg could move level on points with 4th placed RB Leipzig with a win over Werder Bremen and as the hosts still remain unbeaten so far in this season’s Bundesliga campaign, Wolfsburg look a reasonable prospect to add to their points tally here.
Three wins out of their last four matches has helped lift Wolfsburg up the Bundesliga table with victories achieved over Arminia Bielefeld, Hoffenheim and Schalke but it’s worth mentioning that the draw has featured heavily this term as well.
Indeed, Wolfsburg have been involved in no fewer than five stalemates out of their total of eight matches played so far this season having shared the points with Bayer Leverkusen, Freiburg, Augsburg, Borussia Moenchengladbach and Hertha Berlin.
However, on home turf, Wolfsburg have managed to pick up just two wins out of their last nine matches, while four of these nine also happened to be draws.
Werder Bremen have suffered just the one defeat in the Bundesliga to date which came in the form of an opening day 4-1 defeat at home to Hertha Berlin but the visitors have since steadied the ship as they bring a solid and stubborn-looking seven-match unbeaten run into this Friday night encounter.
Back-to-back wins immediately after the opening day defeat against Schalke and Arminia Bielefeld got Werder Bremen back on track but before they could dream of going on an extended winning streak, the visitors have also been pegged back by a sequence of five stalemates on the trot.
Strangely enough, each of these five draws have ended in 1-1 stalemates while on their travels, Werder Bremen have drawn their last three matches on the trot too; draws with Freiburg, Eintracht Frankfurt and most impressive of all, holding Bayern Munich to a 1-1 draw will still be a boost to the visitors.
In previous exchanges, two of the last six meetings between these two teams have resulted in draws and on both occasions, the scoreline was 1-1 so perhaps a case could be made for another draw to unfold here on Friday night.
