On Saturday afternoon, struggling Schalke will look to end an extraordinary winless run in the Bundesliga when Manuel Baum’s team host Wolfsburg at the Veltins Arena.
Schalke head into the clash on the back of a 23-game winless run stretching back to January. The poor run of form has the team from Gelsenkirchen rooted in the Bundesliga relegation spots. All this not yet lost for the home team, as they are only a point from the safety of 15th place in the table. The problem is they have found it so hard to end that winless hoodoo.
They have been picking up points, as they have drawn three of their last four games, including last time out against bottom of the table Mainz. The draw at the fellow strugglers was a particularly galling result, as Mainz had failed to even pick up a point in their opening six league matches.
Needless to say, Schalke’s recent record at the Veltins Arena in the top-flight is a poor one, as they have failed to win any of their previous ten home league matches.
Wolfsburg are one of only two teams unbeaten teams in the Bundesliga this season alongside Bayer Leverkusen. The Wolves have drawn five of their seven league games this season, though, so there is room for improvement.
Last time out Oliver Glasner’s team recorded a 2-1 home win over Hoffenheim. The victory was enough to move the visitors into the European spots in the German top-flight. The game was the fourth straight Wolfsburg league game in which both teams had scored.
Wolfsburg are unbeaten in four away matches, but their last three matches on their travels have all ended all-square.
Forebet predicts that Schalke will be thwarted in their attempts at securing their first league win of the season, with the game finishing in a low-scoring draw.
