Switzerland and Spain to share the spoils
Switzerland vs Spain - 14/11/2020
2506
Switzerland will be hoping they can replicate the encouraging point that they earned against Germany last time out in the Nations League when they play host to Spain in this Group 4 clash in League A of this competition on Saturday evening at St Jakob-Park.
Although they’ve failed to win any of their last five matches overall in all competitions, Switzerland will be encouraged by the fact that they’ve held Germany to draws both home and away in 1-1 and 3-3 stalemates respectively, and they hold home advantage against the visiting Spaniards this Saturday too.
Out of the three recent defeats to Ukraine, Croatia and Spain, only one of these has been inflicted upon the Swiss on home soil and that was in a 2-1 loss to Croatia in an international friendly in early October.
Overall results at home though have generally been pretty steady for Switzerland as the hosts have suffered just three losses in their last 20 matches in all competitions and just one of their previous four matches at home in the Nations League.
This is the first meeting at home for Switzerland against Spain since a World Cup qualifier back in 1957!
Onto Spain then, and the visitors sit top of Group 4 with a single point lead over 2nd placed Germany prior to this upcoming clash in Basel on Saturday evening with the visitors no doubt eager to bounce back from their surprising 1-0 defeat away at Ukraine last time out.
Prior to that shock defeat, Spain had produced some solid results in the form of home wins against Ukraine 4-0 and a 1-0 victory over Saturday’s hosts, Sweden, whilst also picking up a point in a 1-1 draw away from home at Germany.
In-between their Nations League schedule, Spain also drew 0-0 away from home with Portugal in an international friendly, while the bigger picture shows that Spain have suffered just the one defeat out of their last 16 matches in all competitions.
Having also lost just two of their last 24 matches away from home also, Spain look a serious threat on their travels too, although four of their last five matches overall have resulted in draws.
With Switzerland holding home advantage, Spain may have to settle for a point here.
