On Thursday evening, in-form Italian team Napoli host AZ Alkmaar at the San Paolo in gameweek one of the Europa League.
The home team have made a strong start to their campaign, having won three of their first four games. The other game was against reigning champions Juventus, who were awarded a 3-0 win and Napoli were also deducted a point due to Gennaro Gattuso’s team not turning up in Turin on health grounds.
The administrative loss has done little to dim Napoli’s good spirits, though. Last time out they produced a superb display to hammer top-four regulars, Atalanta.
The Azzurri were four goals up by half-time in that clash, which illustrates just how well they played in the encounter.
The home side will look to end a poor recent run of form in the Europa League in this clash, as they head into this game on a three-game losing run in the competition.
The Italian outfit will also be keen to improve their record of just four wins in their previous ten matches in the Europa League.
AZ Alkmaar have started the season in poor form. The visitors have drawn all four of their Eredivisie games after a 2-0 defeat against Dynamo Kiev in the third qualifying round of the Champions League.
The Dutch team has also failed to win in their previous four games in the Europa League, even though they made it to the knockout stages of the competition last season.
The biggest issue for AZ last season in European football’s second competition was conceding too many goals, as they have conceded at least two goals in three of their last four matches.
Forebet predicts that Napoli will continue their rich vein of form by recording a victory in a high-scoring encounter.
