Rennes will play host to Angers in Friday night’s instalment of the French Ligue 1 at their Roazhon Park looking to extend their unbeaten start to their new campaign off the back of a point against Krasnodar in the Champions League during the week.
A solid six-match unbeaten run at the start of this new term has given Rennes a good base from which to launch the rest of their season and includes impressive wins against Monaco 2-1 at home and a resounding 3-0 win away from home at Saint-Etienne in Ligue 1, along with gaining a point in their opening Champions League group match with Krasnodar.
On the domestic front, Rennes have been a hard team to beat in the French top flight as Friday night’s hosts have suffered just the two losses out of their last 16 matches overall which incidentally were both away from home in defeats at Lille and Reims.
However, switch to results on home turf at their Roazhon Park and you find that Rennes have lost just one of their previous 13 matches in Ligue 1 and includes no fewer than 10 victories within this period.
Onto Angers, and the visitors have produced a more inconsistent start to their new season as they’ve won three, drawn one and lost three so far in this season’s Ligue 1 campaign, with two of their three wins being achieved on home turf at their Stade Raymond-Kopa.
It would perhaps be fair to say that Angers’s early success so far in this season’s Ligue 1 campaign has been down to results at home while struggling away from home.
Indeed, this looks to be the case when looking at the visitors’ results on the road in the French top flight.
Angers have picked up just three wins out of their last 13 matches on their travels which have been achieved at Toulouse, Nantes and Brest, but this sequence also includes seven defeats and also includes Angers failing to score in six of these last 13 matches as well.
As the visitors have found goals hard to come by on the road in Ligue 1, this doesn’t bode well for Angers as they prepare for this upcoming clash away from home against a solid and well organised Rennes outfit, especially as they’ve lost six of the previous seven meetings against Rennes.
