Monaco lost 1-0 away at Brest before the international break but have still made a positive start to the new season. Niko Kovac’s men have picked up 10pts from their opening six matches and sit 6th in the Ligue 1 table. A win this weekend, and Monaco would move up at least one place ahead of Sunday’s guests Montpellier.
The last meeting between these two clubs saw Monaco run out 1-0 winners at Stade Louis II, thanks to an early second-half effort from Algerian striker Slimani. Monaco have won 24 of their last 38 games against Montpellier, amazingly only losing two of those clashes.
Both teams head into Sunday’s match-up having won three of their last six matches in all competitions, so Forebet is expecting a close and competitive 90-minutes between the pair.
Monaco will be looking to vastly improve on last season’s 9th-place finish and will have their eye on a return to European competition. Monaco picked up most of their points during the 2019/20 campaign at home, where they claimed eight wins and two draws from their 14 matches.
Sunday’s hosts kept clean sheets in 29% of their home matches last season and have stopped Montpellier from scoring in three of their last six meetings. With that in mind, Forebet could see Monaco keeping a clean sheet on their way to victory this weekend.
Montpellier finished a place above Monaco on the same points last season, with both teams only playing 28 of their allotted 38 matches before Ligue 1 was cancelled. Montpellier only scored 9-goals in 14 away trips last season, failing to score in a whopping 57% of their away games.
Sunday’s guests are yet to win away from home this season, losing 2-1 at Rennes and drawing 2-2 with Dijon. The visitors have also only won one of their last 19 trips to Stade Louis II, which doesn’t bode well for Sunday’s clash.
While both teams have made very similar starts to the new season, Forebet is backing a narrow win for Monaco.
Montpellier don’t have the best of records against Monaco, and the bookmakers are favouring Kovac’s side to claim all 3pts. Disasi will miss the game for Monaco through suspension, while Ballo, Maripan, and Golovin are all doubtful due to injury. Unless players return from international duty with fresh injuries, Montpellier look set for a clean bill of health ahead of this weekend’s trip to Monaco.
