Saturday evening brings us the mid-table clash between Marseille and Bordeaux in the French top flight as both teams look for all three points in order to move into the top half of Ligue 1.

Marseille were quickly out of the blocks at the start of this new French domestic top flight season as they recorded early back-to-back wins against Brest 3-2 and most impressive of all, a 1-0 win on the road at PSG, with both victories being achieved away from home.

However, although the hosts have suffered just one defeat so far this season, they’ve not gained any further wins either as they were handed a 2-0 defeat at home by Saint-Etienne which has been followed by three draws on the trot with Lille, Metz and Lyon, all in 1-1 stalemates.

Results overall though have been pretty solid and consistent for Marseille who have lost just twice out of their last 23 matches in Ligue 1, with seven of these matches ending in draws.

Onto Bordeaux and the visitors sit just one league position above their Saturday’s hosts, Marseille, but are level on nine points with their opponents prior to this upcoming clash at the Orange Vélodrome.

Bordeaux have also lost just the once so far in this season’s new Ligue 1 campaign with their solitary setback being a 2-1 loss on the road at Lens, but wins against Angers and Dijon along with points picked up in draws with Nantes, Lyon and Nice should also give the visitors confidence here.

The visitors have lost just twice out of their last 14 matches overall, while this period has also seen Bordeaux involved in no fewer than eight draws within this sequence of results and the possibility of another draw this Saturday certainly can’t be ruled out in light of this evidence.

The prospects of a straight away win here seems unlikely though as Bordeaux have picked up just three wins from their last 12 matches on their travels which were victories at Nantes, Metz and Angers and four of these 12 matches also ended in draws.

With both Marseille and Bordeaux returning to action after the international break, both teams seem fairly evenly matched and both may well be happy to settle for a point as the Ligue 1 season resumes this weekend.
