The CONMEBOL 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying continues this week with the second round of fixtures featuring the South American nations. On Tuesday the 13th of October we have a meeting between Bolivia and Argentina that will take place at the Estadio Hernando Siles, La Paz.

The venue is one of the highest professional stadiums in the world at 11,932 feet above sea level.

Bolivia come into the match having suffered a 5-0 defeat at the hands of Brazil in their opening World Cup qualifying game. Playing away against the Brazilians was always going to be a difficult game but Bolivia would have been hoping for a stronger performance and the 5-0 loss will come as a blow.

Having been 2-0 down at half time, Bolivia conceded a further 3 goals in the second half and that means they come into this match bottom of the group.

Trends show Bolivia have won only one of their last 14 games, including friendly matches. They finished ninth in their previous World Cup qualifying campaign, winning only 4 of their 18 games. However, their home record is strong and Bolivia are undefeated in their last 5 home World Cup qualifying matches. That run includes a 2-0 victory over Argentina.

Bolivia have seen both teams score in each of their last 4 home games. There has also been over 2.5 goal scored in each of those 4 matches.

Argentina started their 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign with a narrow 1-0 victory over Ecuador. The match was played at the Estadio Alberto J. Armando, in Buenos Aires and Lionel Messi gave the hosts the lead from the penalty spot after only 13 minutes. It appeared as though Argentina were going to go on and win the game comfortably but they failed to score the second goal and that will be of some concern going into this match.

Argentina finished third in the 2018 World Cup qualifying, winning 7 of their 18 games. They ended the campaign 13 points behind Brazil, who topped the group and cannot afford to fall behind early this time around.

Trends show Argentina are undefeated in their last 8 games. Their World Cup qualifying record shows they have lost only 3 of their last 16 away matches in the competition. However, one of those defeats did come in Bolivia.

Team news and Bolivia may make a couple of changes to the team that lost in Brazil. Boris Cespedes and Jhasmani Campos could both come into the starting XI for the hosts.

Argentina may choose to start with Eduardo Salvio in midfield having appeared off the bench in the win over Ecuador. Lionel Messi and Lautaro Martínez should start the game in attack.

Argentina will remember the last time they visited Bolivia as they came away with a 2-0 loss. However, expect this times to be different and Argentina could come away with a crucial 3 points in a game with both teams scoring.
