Dortmund desperate to bounce back at Freiburg’s expense
2992

An unexpected 2-0 defeat away from home in last weekend’s Bundesliga against Augsburg put an end to Borussia Dortmund’s three-match winning streak in all competitions and Saturday’s hosts were left licking their wounds as they prepare to inflict a back-lash against Freiburg at their Signal-Iduna-Park this weekend.

Borussia Dortmund had started their new Bundesliga campaign off with a bang as they collected all three points with a convincing 3-0 home win against Borussia M’gladbach but they were brought crashing back down to earth against Augsburg last Saturday.

If nothing else, this should re-focus the minds of Dortmund as they look to put a disappointing end to last season behind them here in the early stages of this new season following back-to-back losses at home to Mainz and Hoffenheim at the end of the last campaign.

Dortmund certainly hold the wood over their visitors as they’re unbeaten in the previous 12 meetings against Freiburg at their Signal-Iduna-Park and they now have a point to prove this Saturday which could spell trouble for Freiburg.

Freiburg have pretty much picked up where they left off at the end of last season’s Bundesliga as the visitors still remain unbeaten after the first two rounds of matches in this new term, which is on the back of just one defeat from their final six matches of last season.

An opening day 3-2 win away from home at Stuttgart handed Freiburg and manager, Christian Streich, the perfect start to the new German top flight season and this was followed up with a 1-1 draw at home with Wolfsburg last Saturday.

Freiburg’s revival towards the end of last season was largely thanks to winning their last three matches on the trot on home turf at their Schwarzwald-Stadion with victories gained over Borussia M’gladbach, Hertha Berlin and Schalke, but victories on the road continue to be sporadic at best.

The visitors have managed to pick up just two wins from their last 15 away matches in the Bundesliga which is bad enough but to have also failed to keep a single clean sheet during this sequence doesn’t bode well for Freiburg this weekend.

Dortmund’s dominance therefore looks set to continue over their visitors this Saturday as they look to bounce back.
