Friday night features the French Ligue 1 clash between a rapidly recovering PSG outfit and the stubborn unit that is Angers when the two teams meet at the Parc des Princes with the hosts looking to capture a fourth league win on the trot.
PSG began this new Ligue 1 season in uncharacteristic style as the French champions suffered early back-to-back defeats against Lens and Marseille amidst a few injuries and Coronavirus issues but they’re slowly starting to find their feet again having registered three wins on the trot.
Victories over Metz, Nice and Reims (all to nil) and the latter two wins being picked up away from home, have helped lift PSG out of the doldrums and up into a more respectable looking 7th place on the Ligue 1 ladder.
The hosts now have the added incentive of knowing that another three points on Friday night against Angers would not only lift them up into 2nd spot but would also give them a jump on their rivals ahead of the weekend’s action.
Angers moved up into 8th place in the French top flight thanks to their 3-2 home win against Brest and manager, Stephane Moulin, will have been particularly pleased with his team’s second half fightback as they found themselves 2-1 down with just a little under 15 minutes remaining of the match.
However, it’s been an inconsistent start to the new domestic top flight season for Angers who we’re more accustomed to seeing grind out results on a consistent basis and although they finished last season with a flourish by winning their last three matches on the trot, they had suffered four defeats on the trot beforehand.
Angers pride themselves on being a hard unit to beat on home turf but results away from home have been sketchy to say the least as the visitors have managed to register just three wins from their last 12 matches on their travels.
Within this pretty average looking sequence of results on the road was a heavy 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Friday’s hosts, PSG, back in early October, and indeed, PSG have held the upper hand in previous exchanges against Angers for some time, winning the last nine encounters on the trot.
A fourth win on the trot for PSG then seems to beckon here while the hosts will also be keen on keeping another clean sheet.
