On Thursday night, Willem ll host Rangers at the Koning Willem II Stadion in the third qualifying round of the Europa League.

Willem ll have enjoyed a mixed start to the new campaign at home and abroad. The home side has opened their Eredivisie campaign with a 2-0 defeat against Heerenveen and a 4-0 home win over Heracles last time out.

The Dutch team also recorded a 5-0 win at Luxembourg outfit Progres Niederkorn in the second qualifying round of this competition. The victory ended a two-game losing streak for the Dutch team in the Europa League.

In fact, they have lost their only two previous matches in the competition. However, their last game in Europe was way back in 2005 when they suffered a 5-1 aggregate defeat against Monaco.

The home side are strong on home soil, Willem ll are unbeaten in 12 competitive games at the Koning Willem II Stadion.

Rangers are unbeaten in eight games in all competitions this season, having recorded six victories in the process. A 2-2 draw at Hibs last time out ended a run of four straight victories. Steven Gerrard’s team recorded a resounding 5-0 win at Lincoln Red Imps in the second qualifying round of the Europa League.

The Ger have an inconsistent recent record in the Europa League. They suffered a 4-1 aggregate defeat against Bayer Leverkusen in the last-16 last season. The double defeat against the German team means that Rangers have won just three of their last seven outings in Europe’s secondary competition.

The Scottish giants have also found away wins hard to come by in the Europa League, recording just two wins in their last seven European games on their travels.
