Leicester City to cruise to win against Burnley

Leicester City kicked off the Premier League season with a resounding 3-0 win against West Brom away. Now, Brendan Rodgers’ team face off with Burnley at the King Power Stadium in a bid for a perfect six points from six.

Burnley had their start to the league season postponed due to Manchester United receiving an extra week off from fixtures after they played in the Europa League in August. Sean Dyche’s team did play in midweek in the Carabao Cup to warm-up for the game.

The Clarets claimed a 1-1 draw in the cup fixture against Sheffield United after 90 minutes. Matej Vydra’s second-half goal put Burnley on terms before winning on penalties, 5-4.

The home team won both Premier League fixtures between Leicester City and Burnley last term. The games finished with identical 2-1 scorelines.

Their game played at the King Power Stadium witnessed Burnley take a 1-0 lead after 26 minutes through Chris Wood. Jamie Vardy pegged the Clarets back just before halftime and Youri Tielemans got the winner just after the hour-mark.

Vardy heads into the game after scoring twice on opening day versus West Brom. Both of his goals came from the penalty area. The reigning Golden Boot winner will be hungry for more goals.

If there is an issue with Leicester City, it is in defence. Injuries have caused havoc with Rodgers’ player selection. Against West Brom, Rodgers had to shoehorn midfielder Wilfred Ndidi into central defence next to Caglar Soyuncu.

Centre-back Wes Morgan could be passed fit in time for the fixture. He is recovering from a thigh strain. Jonny Evans still needs more recovery time and won’t feature. The same goes for full-back Ricardo Pereira.

In addition, back-up centre-back Filip Benkovic is ruled out through injury. Leicester City’s lack of central defenders could play into the hands of the physical Burnley.

Burnley’s Ben Mee, Ashley Barnes, and Jack Cork are all ruled out. Centre-back James Tarkowski picked up a toe injury this week in training. It is unlikely to keep him out of the team. Tarkowski is a transfer target of Leicester City.

These teams have met 10 times in the Premier League since 2014. Leicester City are unbeaten in seven games versus Burnley, claiming five victories.

The Foxes should claim a sixth win in their last 11 games on Sunday against Burnley. Leicester City’s defence may not be at full-strength but expect them to keep a clean sheet in a victory.
