Dortmund to get off to good start against Moenchengladbach

Saturday evening’s offering in the German top flight sees an opening day clash between Borussia Dortmund and Borussia Moenchengladbach at the Signal-Iduna-Park as the hosts look to build upon their recent triumphant success in the 1st round of the DFP Pokal.

Borussia Dortmund registered a crushing 5-0 defeat upon their hosts, MSV Duisburg, in the opening round of the German cup competition and they’ll be keen to make it back-to-back wins when Moenchengladbach visit on Saturday evening.

Saturday’s hosts, Dortmund, finished runners-up to the Bundesliga title winners, Bayern Munich, but in truth it was no close race as a total of 13 points separated the two teams but nevertheless, it was a solid campaign from Dortmund.

However, although Dortmund won 10 of their final 13 matches of last season’s Bundesliga, results on home turf at their Signal-Iduna-Park took something of a nose-dive in the latter stages of the campaign as the hosts lost three of their last four matches at home.

Dortmund will therefore be eager to set the record straight here, and having won each of the last 11 meetings on the trot against Moenchengladbach, the hosts will be in confident mood.

Onto Borussia Moenchengladbach then, and the visitors also enjoyed a successful campaign last term as they grabbed 4th place and automatic qualification for the Champions League which was largely thanks to their consistent performances and results on home turf at their Stadion im BORUSSIA-PARK.

‘Gladbach suffered just three defeats at home throughout the last campaign and finished the season with a flourish as they collected three wins on the trot to end their season on a high note, picking up wins against Wolfsburg, Paderborn and Hertha Berlin respectively.

However, results away from home last season were inconsistent in comparison to their exploits at home as Gladbach managed to win just four of their last 12 matches on their travels which were at relegated Fortuna Dusseldorf and Paderborn, fourth from bottom Augsburg and 9th placed Eintracht Frankfurt.

Within this 12-match sequence away from home ‘Gladbach also suffered five defeats and along with their poor record against Borussia Dortmund in previous exchanges, the visitors could be facing another tough evening at the office at the Signal-Iduna-Park on Saturday.
