Huge Game as Chelsea Meet Liverpool
7379

There is no doubting the biggest game of the weekend in the English Premier League as Chelsea play Liverpool at Stamford Bridge. The game will take place on Sunday the 20th of September with both teams going into the match having won their opening game of the season.

This match is being billed as an early test of Chelsea's title credentials and should be fantastic to watch.

Chelsea come into the game having defeated Brighton and Hove Albion 3-1 away from home on Monday night. Chelsea took the lead in the 23rd minute from the penalty spot but Brighton scored an equaliser 9 minutes into the second half. However, Chelsea quickly retook the lead thanks to a tremendous strike by Reece James and Kurt Zouma put the result beyond doubt 10 minutes later.

It was not a great performance by The Blues but they managed to get the job done and will be looking forward to testing themselves against the champions.

Trends show Chelsea have achieved 8 wins in their 11 most recent Premier League games and are unbeaten in 8 of their last 9 home matches in the competition. In Chelsea's last 3 home Premier League matches, they have managed to keep a clean sheet but that record is going to be put to the test by their opponents.

Interestingly, Chelsea have managed to win at HT/FT their last 6 home Premier League games in succession.

Liverpool make the trip down to London having recorded a 4-3 home victory over newly promoted Leeds United last weekend. It was a tremendous game to watch, with Liverpool taking the lead three times in the match only for Leeds United to score an equalising goal. The champions needed a late penalty to take maximum points and there will be some concern over their defending going into this match.

Liverpool have won each of their last 3 Premier League games including an entertaining 5-3 victory over Chelsea towards the end of last season at Anfield. However, they have not had things all their own way away from home and Liverpool have won only 2 of their last 6 away Premier League matches. There have been 3 defeats in those 6 games at Watford, Manchester City and Arsenal.

Trends show Liverpool have failed to score a goal in 3 of their last 6 away Premier League games.

Team news and Chelsea will definitely be without the injured Billy Gilmour, Hakim Ziyech and Marco Van Ginkel. Ben Chilwell, Christian Pulisic, Jorginho and Thiago Silva are doubtful but could feature.

Liverpool are still without Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain due to a knee injury. They also have doubts over new signing Konstantinos Tsimikas and Swiss midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri.

Chelsea have been active in the transfer market bringing in quality players including Timo Werner and Kai Havertz. This is the sort of game where they will be expected to make the difference for Chelsea and Liverpool’s defence looked weak last weekend against Leeds United. The title race could truly be on after this game as Chelsea have what it takes to pick up maximum points.
