Azerbaijan and Luxembourg clash in Group C1 of the Nations League

On Saturday evening, two of the minnows of international football meet, as Azerbaijan host Luxembourg at the Bakı Olimpiya Stadionu in Group C1 of the Nations League.
The home side heads into this Nations League clash on the back of one win in their previous 11 international outings, including suffering eight defeats. Most recently Azerbaijan suffered three straight defeats in Euro2021 qualifying, losing against Hungary, Wales and Slovakia without even scoring a goal.
The recent poor run of form does not tell you the story of rather mixed results in the inaugural Nations League campaign back in 2018. The home side finished second to Kosovo in their group, suffering just one defeat, which came in their last group game, a 4-0 hammering at the home of the group winners.
Azerbaijan are unbeaten in their three home games in this competition, having recorded a win and picked up two draws.
Luxembourg’s recent international form has not been great, as a run of seven straight defeats illustrates. Victories have been hard to come by for the visitors, who have now not won in their previous ten international outings.
A poor defence has been the crux of the problem for Luxembourg of late, as they have conceded at least two goals in their previous five outings.
To be fair, the visitor’s experienced a mixed campaign in the Nations League last time out, winning three, losing two and drawing one of their games. They eventually finished second in the group that Belarus topped, ahead of Moldova and San Marino.
Luxembourg could not have endured a more inconsistent record on the road in the last Nations League, winning, drawing and losing one each of their away matches.
With little between these two teams regarding quality, it is of little surprise that Forebet predicts that this clash will produce a low-scoring draw.
